Racine Dental Group opens new 57,000-square-foot building

Racine Dental Group’s new building at 1101 South Airline Road in Racine, Wisconsin is unique in many ways, from its soaring wood-beamed lobby to its abundance of windows and stone accents. The new building sits on five acres directly across from Jerome I. Case High School, off of Washington Avenue/Highway 20. Racine Dental Group will be moving its dentists and patients in stages to the building over the next several weeks.

More than just an attractive new home for its dentists and specialists, the building is a testament to Racine Dental Group’s goal of providing patients with exceptional care in an ultra-modern, caring and comfortable environment.

Derf Simes DDS, the lead Racine Dental Group dentist on the building project, stated, “We wanted the building to be a shining star for the community. It has a ‘wow’ factor. It’s warm, professional and built with purpose. It’s also durable and designed to be relevant and stay relevant. Most of all, it represents just how much we care about our patients and their experience with us.”

Three years ago, when Racine Dental Group began exploring the idea of updating their facility, they hired Practice Design Group (PDG) from Buda, TX, which specializes in dental office design and consulting. The principals, Jeff Carter DDS and Pat Carter, led Racine Dental Group down the path toward their new building, helping them define their goals and express them through structure and design.

Pat explained, “One goal for the dentists was to create comfort and warmth for patients, so we intentionally used wood and stone like you’d find in a home. We also created pods for each group and separate treatment rooms to create more intimate, private settings for care.” Jeff praised Racine Dental Group, stating, “They had a clear vision and allowed us to do what we needed to do to make it happen. They were a great partner.”

Besides creating a “high-touch” environment, creating a high-tech one was also important to the dentists. So PDG made sure the new building had all the latest technology, including electronic medical records, large format digital X-rays and a 3-D digital imaging unit. They even have their own production lab and master ceramist, along with a large patient education and training room that seats 200 people.

PDG helped Racine Dental Group choose a general contractor — Bukacek Construction from Racine. The company’s CEO Jim Cairns statedd, “This building was built by local tradesmen who are very proud to create such a monumental facility to serve our community for years to come.”

PDG also helped Racine Dental Group choose an architect — Plunkett Raysich Architects (PRA) from Milwaukee. According to John Holz, the senior project designer from PRA, “This building was designed from the inside out and reflects everything that the Racine Dental Group stands for: innovative care, warmth, modernity.” Added Martin Choren, PRA project manager, “The new facility represents the complete patient experience. Kids can go there, adults can go there and everyone can find what they need and get the care they deserve. There’s no other place like it. ”
